Three-day ‘Namma Tirupur Kudal 2010’
Tirupur: Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi inaugurated the three-day ‘Namma Tirupur Sangamam’ organised by Tamil Maiyam, a non-profit organisation based in Chennai, in association with district administration here on Friday.

She called upon the youth to carry on the rich Tamil culture and tradition to the next generations without losing its true value. The event, held at Chikkanna Government Arts College grounds, was aimed at promoting traditional arts, dances, literature and culture of Tamil Nadu.

About 400 folk artists were expected to showcase items like Thappattam, Oyilattam, Mayilattam and Jikkattam, among others, over three days. A show featuring ‘Kangayam bull’ has been planned on the sidelines of the event at Kangayam on Saturday.

Ministers Suresh Rajan, Pongalur N. Palanisamy and Thangam Thennarasu, Mayor K. Selvaraj, Collector C. Samayamoorthy and Federation of Indian Export Organisation president Arumugam Sakthivel, were present at the inaugural function.

Ms. Kanimozhi also released the Tamil version of the booklet on tourism brought by the district administration a few months ago, at the function. In an attempt to popularise the traditional cuisines of the country, a food festival was organised at Chikkanna College grounds.
